Day 3: Horsham to Adelaide
I was up early the next day and enjoyed watching the sunrise light up the Arapiles rock face. My son hadn't slept well in the van with the overnight heat, so we went shopping and sightseeing in Horsham. He bought mosquito netting to let him leave the van doors open at night, and I got my wish to see its old buildings and tickle the keys of a streetside Community Piano.

From Horsham, we headed northwest to Adelaide on long, straight roads, past flat, dry fields, to cross into our third state (and one territory — the ACT) in three days. Approaching the SA border, we saw a sign warning of food quarantine restrictions. But a South Australian at a rest stop assured me they only applied to the Riverina-Riverland crossings to the north. (My son had bought a bag of oranges.)
The highway into Adelaide was steep and windy, and the Windsor Gardens Caravan Park my son had booked us for the night was a pleasant surprise. Located only 7 kilometres from the CBD, I expected it to feel like we were camping in "the burbs". But our site had a bushy outlook to an adjacent park, and, more importantly, after two days of roughing it, we could have showers and wash our clothes.
